CIB Egyptian Open Finals: The Statistics and How to Watch LIVE

The finale of the CIB The Egyptian Open takes place today and starts at 7:00 p.m. (mean Greenwich Mean Time+2) at the Great Pyramid of Giza as the first platinum title since PSA The World Tour returned from its forced break is won.

It’s been more than seven months since someone last won a platinum title. Hania El Hammamy did this with the CIB Black Ball Women’s Squash Open in March, but this is another era of squash that COVID-19 era, and the winners today will be the first winners of a major tournament under these new protocols.

In addition to the possibility of winning an important title, the world rankings No. 1 in the world rankings for men and women are also on the program tonight, with the possibility of a completely different combination at the summit on November 1st.

World Champion No. 1 competes against World Champion in the women’s final, while Nouran Gohar competes against Nour El Sherbini, while World Champion Tarek Momen competes against Ali Farag, the top seed of the tournament, for the men’s crown.

In the women’s final, the new number 1 in the world, Nouran Gohar, and the reigning four-time world champion, Nour El Sherbini, will compete in a final for the first time since September 2017. A second straight win in front of the pyramids would see El Sherbini overtake Gohar at the top of the world rankings.

That came at the JP Morgan China Squash Open and was one of El Sherbini’s ten wins against ‘The Terminator’, who only has three wins in that match. Two of them came in their last three battles, but it was the ‘Warrior Princess’ who won their last duel in the CIB PSA World Tour Final two weeks ago.

Both women said their goodbyes in the second round and were pretty dominant from then on. Gohar has lost two games throughout the event and beaten three Egyptians en route to the final, in Zeina Mickey, Rowan Elaraby and Hania El Hammamy, the latter in the semifinals yesterday.

Compared to Gohar’s 196 minutes on the field, El Sherbini has spent an hour less in action and only lost a single game. That was yesterday’s encounter with Nour El Tayeb, which she won 3-1 after comfortable victories in a row against the Australian Donna Lobban, the Canadian Danielle Letourneau and the Indian Joshna Chinappa.

The couple both sit in the top three in the SquashLevels Power Ratings, which predict a 3-2 score. El Sherbini’s level improved 2.8% while Gohar’s level in this tournament increased 6.3%. The ‘Warrior Princess’ is expected to be the winner with a 67% chance of winning.

Can El Sherbini claim another win at this location after winning the World Cup on her birthday last year? Or will the number 1 in the world shape its authority at the top of the world rankings?

Men’s finals: Ali Farag versus Tarek Momen

The men’s final sees a repeat of the 2018-2019 PSA As the winner on this day, Ali Farag will compete against the man who won the world title last season, Tarek Momen.

This meeting in Chicago in March 2019 was one of eleven previous duels the Egyptian couple had on the PSA World tour with a 7-4 lead from Farag. However, they are 1-1 in the finals, with ‘the Viper’ winning the channel in 2018 YOU Championships on St. George’s Hill in an 87-minute epic.

Farag was on the pitch for 228 minutes in his four games, starting with a comfortable 3-0 win over compatriot Omar Mosaad. He then defeated a five-player with Swiss Nicolas Mueller before defeating former world champion Gregory Gaultier and first-time platinum semi-finalist Mostafa Asal to reach the final.

Momen had to fight two intense five-game fights in the past few days to reach this stage. After beating Fares Dessouky and Cesar Salazar of Mexico in the first round, it took him 90 minutes to beat Diego Elias, number 6 in the world, before beating Marwan ElShorbagy in a tumultuous battle.

Like the women’s final, the fighting couple occupies places in the top 3 of the SquashLevels Power Ratings, with Farag coming out on top after his appearances in Giza this week. His level is up 2.4% while Momen’s level is up 3.5% over the course of the week.
